Facebook blocks PirateBay links?

Facebook blocks PirateBay links

Facebook blocks PirateBay links

**Note, there is some content here that would be considered vulgar and probably should not be viewed by minors.  If you’re a responsible parent, you should not let your spawn read this.

So, I hear today that Facebook has jumped on the censorship wagon.  A colleague comes up to me today and casually says this to me: ‘Hey, did you hear that you can send stuff from PirateBay on Facebook?’.

What?!?

I think he was a little taken aback at my reaction.

The warning, if you can’t make it out in the picture, is as follows:

Warning: This Message Contains Blocked Content

And it goes on to try to justify itself by adding:

Some content in this message has been reported as abusive by Facebook users

Now, using my super human ability to be able to see through BULLSHIT, I highly doubt our ‘get as much as possible for free’ Facebook culture has ever reported abusive behaviour from PirateBay…you know, considering they don’t contain porn or anything nefarious like that.  Could this possibly be some knee jerk reaction to the recent decision handed down in Sweden?

So, to further test the limitations of PirateBay as opposed to say….a torrent site that deals in only pornography, I decided to run another test with my previous Facebook buddy.

These are the two torrent links that I sent (or tried to send) to my buddy:

PirateBay:

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4864012/Adventures_of_Huckleberry_Finn_Ebook – BLOCKED

Porn Torrent Site:

http://www.porntorrents.ws/torrent-18-years-old-bitch-fucks-her-brothers-friend:618417 – ALLOWED TO PASS

Hmm…

So, by that account, if I’m a 14 year old kid who is trying to find a book – that most likely can’t be found in school libraries – and I want to share it with a friend on Facebook, I can’t.  But if I am a 14 year old kid who is addicted to porn and wants to share the above link with friends…well, let’s have a porno party.

My point being is this.  If you want to block torrent sites from your free service, that’s your choice.  But if you want to only block certain torrent sites and not all of them, well, enjoy the can of worms you just opened up because now you’re a content filtering service and you have to watchdog everything.

I think I’m going to go delete my FaceBook profile right now….well, I probably won’t, but I can tell you this – I will not be using it until this problem gets rectified…well I probably will.  But I won’t be happy about it!

Damned internet addiction.

Oh, and Facebook sucks my balls.

Now I’m playing with the big kids. If you haven’t noticed already, I’ve updated my commenting system to jump ahead to the 21st century. Watch out fellow bloggers, I’m on the move.

Unfortunately, this upgrade seems to have wiped out all my old fashioned-ly posted comments, soooo…I start anew. I don’t know what I’m going to do having lost my whopping 15 comments, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.

Enjoy the upgrades!

I hate sand castles

I almost peed my pants when I saw this picture.

I hope you enjoy the pee in your pants.

Bye Bye Snap Shots

Snap Shots

Soooo….I was really excited when I happened across Snapshots on some other blogophites site. Naturally, like a lemming to the cliff I went, and immediately downloaded, installed and reveled in the new shiny-ness popping up on my blog.

Well, the shiny-ness has dulled to a polished glow, and I’ve quickly gotten mildly annoyed with the incessant popping-uppedness of these ridiculous bubbles that seem to have crept up everywhere.

When I see the telltale magnifying glass on the end of a link, I now feel like I’m in a mine field and have to gingerly navigate through the sentences of each paragraph in order to hold onto my sanity by the end of the article.

So, in an effort to make mine, and everyone elses life a little less hectic, I’ve removed said Snapshots from my writings. Read in ease my friends, read in ease.

Pirate Bay…day 3 hijinks.

The first 2 days were circus like and interesting, but I didn’t really feel compelled to post anything. Today though, a bit a brazen genius. I’ll sum it up like so:

He asked if they could pick up the check. “They refused”.

Reference can be enjoyed in the last paragraph of the article. Brilliant.

I’ve done a good thing today :)

Bowl for Kids Sake

I’ve done a good thing today. That’s what BBBS of FE (that’s Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Fort Erie to the lay person) say anywhoots. And you know what, I feel like I’m doing a good thing.

Through some gentle prodding from Todd and Zoe, I’ve signed up for the Bowl for Kids Sake happening on February 28, 2009. I had plans to go play poker with John (sorry John) but I think this is a much more worthy cause. I do feel guilty for bailing on John’s poker night (sorry John) but I think I’d feel much guiltier if I bailed on this (sorry John).

So, now down to the nitty gritty. I need some donations to acheive my goal and to properly help out the folks at the BBBS of FE. You may be wondering how to help us out? Well, coincidentally, they’ve created this exceptionally easy way of making a donation. So, I will stop building the excitment and deliver to you the link:

TA DAAAAA!!! (click on Ta daaaa!! to donate and help me out in a good cause 🙂 )

I thank any and all of you who help me out in attaining my modest goal. Thanks!

The Best Job In The World

Best Job In The World

So, I was introduced to it once.  Thought it was a brilliant idea, then thought nothing of it.

I roll into work this morning, and there it is, sitting in my inbox from a co-worker.  Addressed only to me.  It made me ponder what could be.

What, you may be asking yourself, are you talking about crazy man.  I am talking about the ‘The Best Job In The World’ position that Tourism Queensland is currently accepting applications for.

One thing I’ve noticed from the 4 or 5 articles I’ve read on this is that I have not been able to find the actual link to the Tourism Queensland site or to the ‘The Best Job In The World’ info/application spot.  It’s like they’re trying to hide this great secret from the world!

Well, I think that this is one of those once in a lifetime opportunities that everyone should have a chance at, soooooo without further hesitation, I present you with the link to the ‘The Best Job In The World‘ site. If you choose to do so, I wish everyone the best of luck in applying.

Here are some key dates you may want to consider when applying:

22 February 2009 – Applications close
2 March to 24 March 2009 – Voting on 50 short-listed candidates
2 April 2009 – 11 short-listed candidates announced
3 May 2009 – Interviews in Queensland get started
6 May 2009 – New employee announced
1 July 2009 – I start work…uh, I mean, the Island Caretaker starts work

Good Luck!

Flock Update

Sooo…I’ve been kind of against all these feed readers n whatnot just because I took so much time to set up my google homepage tabs.  I would casually browse through my tabs when the urge struck to read the associated information on each tab.  I was quite content.

Well, over the last couple of days, I’ve taken the time to transfer all my feeds from my google homepage tabs to the feed reader in Flock.  Can I share a little something?  I’m a bit of an idiot.  Why haven’t I done this sooner.  It’s soooooooo much easier to pick what I want to go through using this feed reader as opposed to flicking through the tabs.  AND, I don’t miss anything.

Now, I don’t know if not missing anything is a good thing or a bad thing.  I must admit, I’ve been feeling a little overloaded with information over the last few days…no weeks…no months…..but it sure is handy.

Anywhoots, I’m going to play a bit more with Flock and see if there’s anything I don’t like.

Fyi, this post was done through Flock.  As you can tell, the easier things are to do, the more likely I am to do them.  So, I have a feeling because flock is making posting so easy, that you’ll hear a lot more from me.

Flock Home

Flock Home

I’ve recently discovered Flock. Let me tell you, the more I use it, the more I like it.  So far, it’s helped me whittle my google homepage down from 6 pages to 3(ish), kept me on top of my emails and rss feeds, and umpteen other neat-o-rific things.

Some of the things I must say I am really liking is the ability to blog from right inside the browser – no addon needed (which is what I’m doing with this post), mass upload images to various image depots and the sexiest thing I think I like is the clipboard feature.

I don’t think I can properly explain to you the handiness of this browser, you’ll just have to check it out yourself.  Let me just say that it has dethroned Firefox as my default browser.

Flock is definitely ready to Rock!

Geni…my Family treepot (tree depot..get it…get it)

I don’t know why this popped into my head today. Maybe it’s because I’ve uninstalled WoW at work and now my brain is searching for some other distraction, but I’ve always been interested in genealogy.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad had this hard bound case that contained this old and tattered book inside with the words ‘Holmes Genealogy’ pressed into the front cover. I also remember spending hours going through it and reading the names of my ancestors and making up stories – fabricated histories if you will – of the names I saw. It was better than any book I read. Where is this book now? Sadly, I don’t know. It’s been misplaced from all the moves and all the years. Maybe my parents have it tucked away somewhere, maybe it’s in an old bookstore or maybe it’s just plain lost.

Well, this little thought bubble prompted me to use the google to search for ‘create your family tree’, and lo and behold, I stumbled on this site: Geni

It really is amazing how much I remembered when I was punching in the names of my family. I was lost in whirring of stories and memories as entered each individual name into their easy to use tree maker.

It was great.

There is also an obvious feature to add email addresses to each entry you make with the option of auto sending an email to each person. So, naturally, I entered the email addresses that I knew and now I’m anxiously awaiting to see if anyone bites.

I think this is a very neat new toy. I hope ‘the fam’ bite and that I can see my tree expanding.
